The Challenge
For a midsized professional services firm with over 200 employees spread across three regional offices, the technology stack had become a growing liability. The Director of Technology described the environment as “a decade of patchwork upgrades held together with hope.” The firm relied on a hodgepodge of on-premises servers running legacy applications, with network storage that was constantly near capacity. Every Monday morning, the IT team fielded an average of a dozen tickets related to slow file access, application crashes, or VPN dropouts for remote workers.

Our Approach

We identified that the firm’s core practice-management application could run efficiently in a virtualised private cloud, while file-sharing and collaboration tools were better suited for a hybrid Microsoft 365 environment. The plan was deliberately phased to avoid downtime during peak engagement periods.
We first migrated the firm’s on-premises Active Directory and file servers to a secure cloud tenant, implementing Azure Active Directory with single sign-on and conditional access policies. Next, we virtualised the remaining on-premises servers into a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) cluster at a colocation facility, giving the firm the performance they needed without the capital expenditure of a full data-centre rebuild. To eliminate manual patching, we deployed an automated patch-management system with a change-control dashboard that the Director of Technology could monitor from a single pane of glass.
Cybersecurity was woven into every layer. MS&VG installed an AI-driven endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution across all devices, configured a zero-trust network architecture, and implemented a cloud-based backup solution with immutable snapshots tested weekly. We also automated the onboarding and offboarding process for employees, cutting provisioning time from two days to under an hour.
