What Is the Zapscape Vulnerability and Why Should You Care?
According to a recent report by The Hacker News, a new Linux kernel flaw called Zapscape allows someone with high-level access inside a virtual machine to break out and run code directly on the host computer. This is a serious problem because virtual machines are supposed to be isolated from each other and from the underlying system. When that isolation fails, an attacker can take over the entire server.
The vulnerability lives in KVM, a common piece of software that helps Linux run virtual machines. It specifically affects “nested virtualization,” where one virtual machine runs another virtual machine inside it.
